Tourism Promotion: 

1. From the years 2001-2005, this office has printed brochures, fliers, posters, tarpaulins, calendars and was able to produce 2 video documentaries on tourism in Negros Occidental. The promotional materials were sent to various destinations here and abroad for target markets such as Koreans, Chinese and Japanese. 

2. We also have catered to walk-in tourist and student researchers, travel writers and the media by providing promotional materials, research materials, attendance to media interviews, and the contribution of write ups and a regular article for tourism, such as that of PILMAP Travel and Leisure Magazine, SunStar Weekend Bacolod and the Islands Philippines Magazine, Colors Magazine, Mabuhay Magazine, and various travel magazines on television like Travel Time, Living Asia, and many more. 

3. Familiarization Tours were conducted to local and the national media, tour operators, travel agents, nag possible investors for tourism.



4. Participation in Trade Fairs and Travel Marts. The office participated in the yearly Philippine Travel Mart at SM Megatrade Hall, Travel Tour Expo, also at the SM Megatrade Hall, the Visayas-Mindanao International Travel Fair, the Travel Exchange at Robinson's Place Bacolod and the WV Tourism Assembly in Iloilo, the Best of Western Visayas in Intramuros and the Pacific Asia Travel Mart at Bangkok, Thailand. 

5. We also hosted the 6th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines in 2005. 

6. Promotions of our destinations through a beauty pageant at the mall 

Gaisano City Mall has been our partner every summer in conduction of the Summer Girl with the concept of promoting our tourist destinations at the mall with various activities held on weekends for one whole month. They are given a chance to visit our resorts and hotels, and in such a way, they talk about the places they represent that these places. This is to have a continuous recall for Negrenses about tourist destinations where they can visit and promote tourism, as well. This began in 2005 and we have themes related to tourism every year.


Institutional and Capability Building: 

In the last 8 years, we have conducted various trainings and workshops for the development of our Human Resource in the tourism industry. 

We assisted in the training of Tourist Police in 2006, Tour Packaging, Tour Guiding, Front Desk, Housekeeping, Visayas Festival and Cultural Management, the tourism planning workshop in support to the Association of Tourism Officers of Negros Occidental and the conduct of audio-visual presentations and lectures in schools, specifically with topics related to tourism, destinations in conventions and marketing programs. 

A monthly regular meeting is also conducted for all tourism officers and designates to constantly update them on the latest trends in tourism. 

Employees have been sent to various trainings and workshops as the Capability Building, Tourism Accreditation, Statistics, Tour Packaging, and most seminars are needed in the implementation of the tourism programs of the national and the provincial government. 

Conduct of Probinsya Ko Libuton Ko Program - an annual education tour for graduating public high school students wherein they will learn about our culture, history and traditions through a one day tour to include a visit to the airport, sea port, video presentation at the Capitol, Negros Museum, the Panaad Park and Stadium, Mambukal Resort and a courtesy call on the Governor and the Vice Governor for them to have the change to shake hands with the head of the provincial government, to commence with snacks at McDonalds, as part of the new trends in our culture.

Tourism Week Celebration:

ο Tourism Awareness for Teachers all over Negros Occidental 

ο Tourism Quiz at the mall during the Provincial Tourism Week 

ο Celebration of the Tourism Month every September has also been part of the Tourism programs of the province as supported by SP Resolutions and in consonance with the World Tourism Organization themes for the yearly celebration. This is coupled with photo exhibit and video presentations at the mall, a yearly motorcade and float competition, a delicacy festival and media blitz and familiarization tours. 

ο The celebration is also being done in most towns and cities where all winners of various competitions converge during Provincial Tourism Week.


Tourism Development: 

ο Tourism Signages 

To ensure quality service for tourism, we have installed about 41 welcome and directional signages along the boarders of each town and city in the province. We also constructed about 5 restrooms for the towns of Cauayan, Manapla, Escalante, Sipalay and Calatrava. 

ο Tourism Restrooms 

Aside from this, we have conducted site inspections and in cooperation with the Women in Travel-Bacolod. We have installed a seal of approval for the best tourism restrooms upon partial inspection of the towns in Negros such as the ones in Himamaylan, Hinigaran, Kabankalan, Binalbagan and Bago.



Networking among tourism related organizations is a vital tool in the implementation of projects and programs of the Provincial and the Department of Tourism, therefore, the office has been actively coordinating with various organizations by participating and conducting meetings, as well. 

The ATONO, also known as the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines has been formed though the assistance of this office, which is a SEC registered and is also an accredited organization in the Provincial Government 

The NTI, also known as the Negros Island Tourism Incorporated was formed for the very reason that Governor Joseph Marañon called on all tourism organizations to unite as one and have one voice in the development of tourism in Negros. Therefore, through the assistance of the SMEDSEP, a German Government funded NGO, NTI was launched in 2006. 

This organization is composed of the Resorts Association of Negros Island (RANI), Hotel and Restaurant Association of Negros Occidental (HRANO), Negros Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS), and all participating establishments with concerns for tourism. 

Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines 

The Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines or ATOP was established on October 4, 2001 during the 1st National Convention at the Dynasty Court Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. It was hosted by the Association of Tourism Officers of Northern Mindanao and sponsored by the Department of Tourism and Northern Mindanao Tourism Council. The charter president is Mr. Catalino E. Chan III, then provincial tourism officer of Camuigin. 

ATOP is an organization of tourism officers from all over the country regardless their appointment status. Founded to foster unity in the tourism industry and to promote the welfare of its members and the traveling public, ATOP has evolved into a crucial player in the various levels of the tourism industry. Working closely with the Department of Tourism and other tourism-oriented organizations, ATOP is articulating issues and concerns affecting tourism and is promoting honesty and integrity in its ranks. 

With a vision that seeks to become the premier tourism organization, ATOP is an active partner of the government in the country's economic, social and cultural development programs. 

The ATOP mission: 

ο Strengthen ATOP capabilities for tourism development ο To strive towards the highest standards of services and information for tourist ο To foster unity in the tourism industry and to promote the welfare of its members and the other partners ο To uphold the dignity in the tourism industry and to strive towards professionalization ο Promote, develop and maintain an atmosphere of mutual assistance and understanding among members ο To increase membership in both the metropolis and the provinces 

The ATOP goals: 

ο To build a strong, dynamic and effective organization ο Maintain constant communication and cooperation with other tourist-related organizations ο Attain financial stability towards self-sufficiency ο To propose a bill in congress to make the position of tourism officer as a mandatory position in every LGU in the country 

ATOP has conducted annual conventions in Cagayan de Oro, Olongapo, Dumaguete, Surigao, Palawan, Negros Occidental, and at Koronadal, South Cotabato. The association of the Tourism Officers of the Philippines is the implementing arm of the Department of Tourism down to the grassroots level.
